Residential Care Worker (Young People)
A Residential Care Worker plays a vital role in providing safe, supportive, and structured care for young people within a residential setting. The role focuses on promoting stability, emotional well-being, and independence while ensuring safeguarding and regulatory compliance at all times.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing day-to-day care and emotional support to residents, building positive, trusting relationships through consistent and respectful engagement.
- Supporting young people to develop independent living skills, including personal care, budgeting, cooking, time management, education, training, and employment readiness.
- Promoting and maintaining safe, structured daily routines that encourage stability, responsibility, and positive behaviour.
- Supporting residents to manage their emotional, mental, social, and physical well-being, using trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
- Acting in line with safeguarding policies and procedures, identifying risks and responding appropriately to concerns.
- Maintaining accurate and timely record-keeping, including daily logs, incident reports, care plans, and progress notes.
- Working collaboratively with local authorities, social workers, families, and external professionals to support care planning and positive outcomes.
- Supporting residents during challenging or crisis situations, using de-escalation techniques and maintaining a calm, professional presence.
- Ensuring the residential environment remains safe, clean, and welcoming, promoting a homely and respectful atmosphere.
- Upholding the values of the organisation and complying with relevant legislation, including the Children Act, Leaving Care legislation, and regulatory standards.
